The Role: Procurement Officer
The Procurement Officer (Purchaser) will provide crucial tactical support in procuring all materials, consumables, minor subcontracted works, and logistics services needed for the project’s Electrical and Instrumentation (EITS) scope. This role requires a focus on local supplier coordination, rapid sourcing, and strict adherence to local compliance management.
The ideal candidate must be disciplined in execution, attentive to process, and agile in responding to site priorities. You will be expected to work effectively under pressure without ever compromising on documentation, traceability, or commercial safeguards.
Minimum Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field.
- Professional Certification (e.g., CIPS (UK), CPSP (Tanzania)) is a strong advantage.
- In-depth knowledge of Tanzanian procurement regulations and international best practices.
- A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in a similar role, preferably in oil & gas, energy, or large-scale construction projects.
- Willingness and ability to travel and work in remote project areas.
- Proficiency in the Procurement Modules of ERP Systems.
- Strong computer literacy, especially in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and Outlook.
- Experience working on large, complex projects in HSE roles is an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement and Sourcing: Receive and validate purchase requisitions (PRs) from site and engineering teams, ensuring accuracy and budget alignment. Launch Requests for Quotations (RFQs) and evaluate commercial offers in collaboration with user departments.
- PO Execution and Vendor Coordination: Convert validated PRs into Purchase Orders (POs) using company systems. Resolve vendor issues related to partial deliveries, invoicing errors, warranty claims, or material non-conformance.
- Cross-Functional Coordination: Interface with engineering for material specifications and approvals. Coordinate with the logistics team to ensure seamless last-mile delivery and customs clearance. Liaise with finance for invoice validation and payment follow-up.
- Systems and Reporting: Maintain detailed procurement trackers and dashboards for orders, deliveries, and invoices to ensure accurate tracking and reporting. Update procurement risk registers and participate in internal coordination meetings.
