Commonwealth Masters Scholarships 2026 for Developing Countries
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the UK (CSC) offers a UK government-funded scholarship scheme, supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). These scholarships are available to candidates from eligible low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries to undertake full-time taught Master’s studies at a UK university.
The scholarship aims to provide talented and motivated individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary for sustainable development. It is intended for individuals who would otherwise be unable to afford studying in the UK.
Aim and Benefits of Commonwealth Masters Scholarships
This is a fully funded scholarship that provides a comprehensive support package, including:
- Full tuition fees.
- Full flight coverage to the UK at the start of your studies and a return ticket at the end of the award.
- A monthly living allowance of £1,452, or £1,781 per month for those studying in London.
- A grant to cover study-related travel within the UK or overseas.
- A warm clothing allowance, where applicable.
- Child allowance for scholars who have children and are widowed, divorced, or single parents.
- Additional support for scholars with a disability, based on a full assessment of their needs.
Requirements for Commonwealth Masters Scholarships Qualification
To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a citizen of an eligible Commonwealth country, or have refugee status from one, or be a British Protected Person.
- Be a permanent resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- Be available to start academic studies in the UK by the start of the academic year in September 2026.
- Hold a first degree of at least a second-class upper (2:1) honours, or a second-class lower degree with a relevant postgraduate qualification by September 2026.
- Demonstrate that they are unable to study in the UK without the scholarship.
- Have submitted all required documents in the stated format.
Tanzania is one of the eligible Commonwealth countries for this scholarship.
Application Process and Deadline
The application process is a two-step procedure:
- Apply through the CSC Central application system.
- You must also apply to a nominator, which is the main route of application. These nominators can be national nominating agencies or selected non-governmental and charitable organizations.
The application deadline for Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships for the 2026/27 academic year is October 14, 2025, at 16:00 GMT. Applicants should note that the CSC will make the final decision on the institution of study.
