Six (6) PhD Scholarships in Molecular Biosciences at the University of Dar es Salaam
The University of Dar es Salaam is offering six fully-funded PhD scholarships in Interdisciplinary Molecular Biosciences (IMB), with funding from Sida. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring researchers to specialize in a blended learning program with contributions from Swedish partner institutions.
The program, spanning 48 months, will commence in October 2025 and be offered at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). Selected candidates will have the chance to spend up to six months in Sweden for joint supervision, hands-on lab work, and seminars, while conducting their fieldwork in Tanzania.
Scholarship Disciplines & Benefits
This scholarship is designed to support students in various molecular bioscience disciplines, including
systematics, natural product chemistry, ecology, biotechnology, biomedical, and bioinformatics. Upon completion, each candidate is required to submit a thesis and publish at least three articles in internationally refereed journals.
The scholarship provides comprehensive coverage:
- In Tanzania, the scholarship covers tuition fees, books, a monthly stipend, and a research/fieldwork fund, all based on UDSM-approved rates.
- In Sweden: A return airfare, supervision fees, a subsistence allowance, and a shared office are provided, with rates based on Sida approval.
- Additionally, each selected student will receive a laptop.
Eligibility & Application
The scholarships are primarily awarded to Tanzanian nationals, with the highest priority given to staff members from the University of Dar es Salaam, including those from DUCE and MUCE. Applicants from other public universities in Tanzania may also be considered.
Female researchers are especially encouraged to apply.
To be eligible, you must:
- Have a Master’s degree in a relevant Molecular Biosciences field.
